Watching film openings- notes

These notes are from today's lesson, in which we watched a few more professional film openings

My week with Marilyn
Flashback Narration  by protagonist- Colin
Small Montage of going back to get job with jazzy music
Marilyn is the first chatacter seen however we see her on a screen, many men watching
We are then introducted to the other character
Parents do not approve, family arguments
Quick pace, lots of informtion given within a very shor amount of time.
The man is so eager to get involved in media

This is England
A montage of 80s Britain.
Positives, negatives
Moments of war, violence, hate, and many more
Parliament, thatcher fieing machine gun
After montage:
Being told year and time at the start.
Young lad, messy rrom, dad possibly at war or died at war as there is a framed photo
Lots of information gaiined quickly
1980s style clothing, location and filters
No dialogue for a few mins at start
Boy having difficulty with life
Everybody knows him
He is bullied by everyone
An interesting opening with lots of violence and other strange events

The Graduate
One shot, camera following a man through an airport
Starts on a plane
Man is on his own
Could easily be replicated
Block black text credits
No dialogue to start, very quiet, only music overlayed
Does not suggest or give away any parts to the film

Son of Rambow
Little boy reading bible and other people protesting against the new film release
Another Boy in cinema smoking and making illegal copy of film with a camera.
The boy leaves the cinema and runs home.
Fast and short opening with many things happening in a short amount of time.

Submarine
Starts in empty room, pictures on walls, natural diagetic sounds of the outside
Boy sitting in corner of room looking out window, introduces himself by narrating
Oliver Tate
Mamy shots of scenery including lots of the ocean, areas around his house
After this, there is a new scene at Oliver's school and he narrates a bit more mixed with dialogue.
There is a fascinating thing about the boy that makes him different from everybody else in his school.
