Preliminary task

Our task is as follows:
"Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom he/she then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180 degree rule."

For my preliminary task, I worked with three friends:
Becca Stimpson
Poppy Frost
Nathan Saunders

We decided to choose the idea of complete improvisation. This is because the best and funniest ideas can often come out of people who are put in a scenario with no lines, no preperation, and only whatever they can find for inspiration.
Below is the finished product.

I think that we did a very good job of meeting the objectives of this task and producing a funny, quirky and imaginative short film, those acting in the film were Poppy Frost and Nathan Saunders. Neither of them had done much, if any, acting on camera before, and I think that they were very good at it, and were suitable characters for the roles that we had made. The name of the film (The Ruler of Stationary) came about when we were looking around the classroom for inspiration. We saw a pot of rulers and I suggested that we produce a comedy, pirate style spoof sword fight. This worked very well and as we were thinking of a name for Nathan's character, we thought about the ruler, and chose the name because of it (as well as the fact that the name is a rather amusing pun itself). Overall, there was not much that I would change, and I think it went very well.
